From the Eagle Tribune;
Fuel stolen from Atkinson mail trucks

ATKINSON — The mail trucks were stuck in the lot Monday morning, without any fuel for deliveries.
Three mail trucks had diesel fuel siphoned from them over the weekend, police Chief Philip Consentino said. He said he was contacted late Monday by the postmaster, who reported gas had been stolen for the second time this year.
At least three cars owned by the U.S. Postal Service had gas siphoned from them in late June. One of those cars was damaged. Another half a tank of gas was taken from the postmaster's Ford Explorer.
This time, Consentino said, the diesel trucks were hit.
"They're easier because it's a straight opening," he said. "Just open up the caps and it goes right into the tank."
Gas prices have gone down in the last two weeks, but diesel prices have not seen the same drop. The average price of gas in the state was $3.12 per gallon yesterday, compared with $3.78 for diesel, according to AAA.
The tanks were between half and three-quarters full when postal employees parked them last weekend. Consentino said trucks are usually parked in front of the building, but because the parking lot was being paved, the trucks were put in the side lot.
That lot, which is visible from Route 121, but better hidden by the building, is where the cars were parked when tanks were siphoned over the summer.
Consentino had few details about the latest theft. Whoever took the gas left less evidence than the last time, when the nozzle to a red gas can was left behind and the metal spout on a Mercury Sable was broken.
Police did not make an arrest in the June siphoning, and will add this weekend's crime to their investigation.

I'm sure Chiefo Bigumheado is working very hard on this theft ( Not!). My guess is he is working harder on the elderly affair trucking schedule for the 28th workshop meeting. I bet yah!
I'm quite sure our detective will solve this just like all of the other crimes he hasn't solved.
Agree with previous poster. We get 20 hours a week of Elderly Affairs work but 15 minutes of police work. What a joke.
You should not be too hasty to hold either the chief or Det. Farrar up to ridicule for not finding the culprit, when from what the papers says there aren't really any leads to go on. An anonymous theft sometime during a whole weekend is not much to go on.
Let's try to be fair.
You would think they would have purchased locking gas caps after the first incident, or parked in front of the building during off hours.

I agree. This seems to happen every year. The cost of the locking caps would have paid itself off and more by now. C'mon guys! This isn't too hard to prevent!
Unfortunately Mark, this police department's obsession with politics and anything other than police work leaves us all less safe, our loved ones more vulnerable (the attempted abduction unacknowledged by bighead).
These issues are directly related to Consentino's boredom with policework; let's allow him to focus 100% of his time on elderly affairs.
Mark, the ridicule of the chief and detective have nothing to do with stolen gasoline from a post office truck.
It does have to do with the dozens of other examples of malfeasance, abuse of power, waste of taxpayer dollars, lost guns, etc etc etc etc etc etc.
So if we're going to talk about being "fair", let's be fair to the taxpayers and residents that have gotten a terrible deal and terrible treatment for their tax dollars. We've been bullied, abused and our taxdollars misused to fund a political wing in our PD. If your going to talk about fairness, the taxpayers and residents got screwed in the past and continue to get screwed.
I realize you understand this. Just trying to clarify the ridicule which is well deserved in my opinion.
Oh, I fully agree with all of the other stuff. I just meant it wouldn't be fair to expect miracles in a situation like this one.
example of disrespect...

I do not know why you are so critical of the Detective. He works very hard, at his job. When my house was broken into he was there throughout the whole ordeal. Which is more than I can say for Lt. Baldwin. He is never there for you. I had to leave messages upon messages for him. We pay him a salary for what? So he can do whatever he wants.

I agree about the detective being hard working..but you are being unfair to the Lt. He is a very hard working man as well. He also has a very large work load. So from my opinion ..the police work together, your needs were met..

Really? I've heard numerous stories direct from victims about our detective and this is the first time I've heard a positive story. Maybe he's doing better at not losing guns.
From the last few posters, sounds like we have lots of hardworking officers over there. I am sure there are a few. I completely believe there are. But the hardworking guys don't sue the town or yell at us at a meeting like Lt. Baldwin did. Those moments were a real breach of trust for taxpayers. You can spin the "hardworking" story all you want.
