Timberlane officials silent on cutting short cheerleading season

PLAISTOW — The fall cheerleading squad's season has been cut short at Timberlane Regional High School, but no one will say why.

Administrators and parents have been closemouthed since the decision was announced on Friday. Principal Donald Woodworth would not explain his decision to cancel the rest of the team's season.

"We don't want to single out individual students, coaches or team issues," he said.

"We did have to end the season, but there will be no disciplinary action against the cheerleaders."

Woodworth would not specify exactly what happened to prompt punishment of the entire squad.

"We had some internal issues we couldn't square away," he said yesterday.

"There were a variety of issues, not just one we can solve. I can't comment further."

Woodworth would not name the school's cheerleading coach, who was new this year, nor say if she has been fired.

"We ended the season, so I don't have a coach right now," he said.

Students leaving school yesterday either didn't know about the situation or didn't want to comment.

Diane Ripley's daughter was on the team. She said yesterday the school ending the season was not the end of the problem.

"It's still going on and there's no final resolution," she said.

"It's kind of a fire storm right now. I would be shocked if anyone talked about it. It's a bad situation."

Ripley also wouldn't say what had happened to end the season in order to protect her daughter.

School Board member Peter Bealo said he didn't know the reason for the secrecy.

"All I know is the letter that went out to the parents of people on the cheerleading squad," he said.

"Hopefully, we'll learn more at the School Board meeting this week."

School Board vice chairman Lisa Withee said the decision was made by the high school principal, not the board, so they had nothing to do with it.

Woodworth said the issue with the fall squad will not affect future cheerleading seasons.

"We do intend to run a winter cheerleading program and to work toward a successful fall season next year," he said.

Why does everyone around this community hide all the scandals?

I want to know what is going on in the school I fund with my tax dollars.

If there's bullying, let there be detentions, suspensions, dismissals, and accountability. Otherwise there will be no lesson and this behavior will continue.

No pain, no gain.

It is likely behavior involving minors whose names and offenses need not, and should not be publicly disclosed.

Have some trust in our officials to do the right thing... we don't need to publicly pillory 15-year-olds in this blog.

Beat up instead on the Chief, BOS, ZBA, whatever.

Spoken like a true helicopter parent.

The school has an obligation to report the incident, reporting names of minors is a different issue.

Being a minor does not preclude revealing the offense.

They probably want to give the School Board the opportunity to seal the record for 99 years again.

It's Sunday morninga nd I am wakened by the sound of pre-hunting season atrget practise in my thickly settled neighborhood near the station.

We have no police department in this town, just a bunch of do-nothings collecting an easy paycheck and those in charge are worried about cats and ducks.

The middle school failed to report alcohol use on the premises. The SAU concealed the continued employment of a known pedophile in the middle school. The school board has sealed minutes to a school board meeting for 99 years. The superintendent refused to explain the dismissal of ski coaches. The SAU was silent on teacher boondoggle to vegas. Elimination of midterms and finals were not disclosed before implementation. The school board meets without public record as workshops. School board members meet 'off the record' to conduct district business. The budget committee refused for two years to televise meetings.

More secrecy should come as no surprise to anyone paying the least bit of attention. This school district is completely adrift. For $136k per year La Salle has delivered perpetually poor performance and relentless corruption. Time for King Richard and his court of jesters to go!

Rumor has it that rape and drunkenness is involved, but those in power don't want that information out. Wonder why?

Anonymous said...

That doesn't sound right. The cheerleading team was cancelled so they'd be the perps. A girl doesn't often rape anyone.

Anonymous said...

You think? That's why the school is not saying anything. It's their way of keeping the truth from coming out.

Anonymous said...

If it is rumor, then why do you repeat it here?

I hope the Moderator is extra-vigilant here to remove posts dealing in rumors and children.

Maybe they're trying to hide a female hazing incident.

Just my humble speculation.

Maybe they are hiding a couple female rapes.

Rapes? how rediculous. seems like the "voices of Atkinson" are a bunch of imginative folks with way too much time on their hands.
