Atkinson home heavily damaged in blaze

ATKINSON — Firefighters responded twice to the same home yesterday after a fire rekindled hours after being put out.
Fire Chief Michael Murphy said the first call came in at 8:10 a.m. for a two-alarm fire in the bedroom of a home at 8 Rose Lane.
"There was heavy fire and smoke from the second floor," Murphy said. "Atkinson Engine 2 and Hampstead Engine 1 did an aggressive fire attack and quickly extinguished it."
Firefighters left at 9:38 a.m., but were called back at 12:49 p.m. for a report of smoke coming from the roof of the home.
"The fire rekindled, though it was smaller the second time," Murphy said. "Again, we quickly knocked the fire down. We're not sure how it rekindled."
He said the department did everything by the book before leaving the house.
"We investigated before we left, using thermal imaging," he said. "There was nothing there."
He said this type of rekindled fire is uncommon since firefighters now use thermal imaging to look for small burns, but it does happen occasionally.
"It's one of those things that happen in a tiny space," he said. "It continued to burn until it got oxygen. Then it spread."
No one was injured in the blaze. Murphy said he believes the cause was an electrical malfunction in the house.
The house is owned by Joseph and Rose Faro, who live in Windham and rent out the property.
A woman who is living at the residence was distraught yesterday afternoon and wouldn't give her name.
"I have no idea what the damage is," Faro said yesterday as he left the property,
Murphy said the damage to the house was extensive and mainly caused by the initial fire.
"There is damage to a second-floor bedroom, the attic and the roof," he said. "There is also heavy smoke and heat damage throughout the house. There is definitely structural damage."
The four-bedroom house, built in 1984, is assessed at $399,900, according to town records.
The Atkinson Fire Department is continuing to investigate. Firefighters from Hampstead, Plaistow and Danville also responded to the scene.

A family just suffered through a fire and posters here are turning this into a Maggie issue? That's ignorant behavior.
Thank you to the fire departments who responded and were able to get this situation under control. Hopefully the family didn't lose too many personal items during this incident.
The person that just suffered the fire has never thumbed her nose at the fire dept. like the Osborns have. She never intentionally put her kids in danger because she was not suppose to be living in a house the courts ordered them out of.
Criticizing the Osborns for their criminal, arrogant behavior can not and should not be classified as ignorant behavior.
It can and SHOULD when it has NOTHING to do with the topic at hand. This is a story about an Atkinson family who are dealing with a serious fire. Let's keep the focus where it belongs and not on your petty infatuation with the Osborns. I'll say it again, your post is ignorant.
To bring it back around to where it belongs, my thoughts are with the family impacted by this fire.
Your thoughts should also be for the saftey of the Osborn kids if a fire should happen over there. An ounce of pervention is worth more than a pound of cure.
The kids can't protect themselves from the criminal activity of their parents, but a village can. It takes a village to protect the Osborns from themselves.
Show their kids how much the village loves them and call the State Fire Marshall today.

The AFD is first rate. Too bad you can't say the same for the APD. However, be careful with all that praise. It'll go right to their heads. Soon they'll want to go full-time and demand to be called "First Responders". Next they'll insist on +100K salaries with lavish pension and health benefits and early retirement. Then they'll join a Union to protect all their gains. It's already happened in the larger cities in NH. I think a better plan would be to save the people and let the property burn. All fire men really do is risk their lives carrying water for the banksters and the insurance companies. Time for a taxpayers' revolt.

in Iraq and Afghanistan. And they get dog poop for pay.
Why then are Fire fighters and policemen paid so much and the real men that defend our country paid so little? It's because the prior have unions and political support while the real men are being taken advantage of by the same people.
These situations need to change by getting rid of the politics that is in place.

Did anyone watch tonights budget meeting? If not, why? If so, did you see anything WRONG with how the budget committee members responded to the Conman's budget? If so, please make your concerns known here on the blog.
We don't have cable and we're not going down there. I'd watch from the safety of home if we could.
Watching Phil in budget meetings is like watching a car accident scene. He makes it up as he goes. I'd have cut more but will walk away with some satisfaction they cut about $20K in unneeded budget from the incompetent. Lots more room for cutting in my opinion.

You obviously are not familiar with the AFD. It's the only fire department in this area that does not have full-time employees. They get a few dollars for each call but leave their beds, jobs, families, dinners, and holidays to respond to calls. Most of the time outside of calls is VOLUNTEERED.
You are also incorrect in assuming that they are only firefighters. Over half the department are also EMTs or EMT-I (the certification just below paramedic). Changing them to First Responders would be a demotion.
In contrast to what you believe, the support and praise of the townspeople is what keeps the members motivated to continue volunteering.
In our opinion, the fire department is the ONLY well run department we have in the town of Atkinson. All the men and women that volunteer there deserve all the love and respect we can give them. They deserve no less.
The APD on the other hand..........

How do you know so much about these people. I have no idea where this address is in Atkinson! How do you? Unless you live next to them? Or you are a stalker. Which is it?

There are several stalkers on this blog and they do this all the time to other people who have done nothing to deserve it. What makes this any different though the people mentioned here actually did some bad stuff.
BTW, the person's name and address and the comments are not slander. All this was in court in the open. Common knowledge and fact based info.
