"Pleasure Vehicle" on the job at Walmart!
Well here is a perfect example of our hard working, overextended police force is conducting business in Atkinson. The picture to the right is our dare Police car in Walmart parking lot. I didn't know that our town serviced plastiow's needs also? I can fully understand why our police chief needs more cars for Atkinson, That is because they are all out shopping at Walmart.

I realize lots of folks defend the APD, the regular cops. One cop I know said that every move they make has to have approval of the Chief. I also know that they don't enforce the law and don't keep the peace. He looks for any excuse not to act. For the past couple of weeks, there have been endless fireworks displays in my neighborhood. I watch them light these rockets with small children nearby, the woods is close, not to mention the fact that they are illegal and it's late at night. Do the police do anything, no. This PD is totally ineffective due to the Chief.
I have heard the same. Just like the rule about not giving speeding tickets to residents. The Chief is out to win the popularity vote, so he can have his way in election times etc...Winning elections, means owning the winners.
Unless you piss him off, then you get tickets for everything.
but that's not abusing his position, he is just enforcing the law, just enforcing more with those who piss him off.
To anonymous 7/12/08 @ 4:38. Did you call the police to report the fireworks/noise complaint? Just because you saw them in your neighborhood does not mean the ONE officer on duty saw them. One officer cannot be everywhere at once, nor know what is going on everywhere at once. Next time pick up the phone and call and the officer will respond to your complaint.
To Mutual Aid - Yes, it was called in. Some nights they continue for hours. There's even a guy who lights them off after 11PM. Don't you want him for a nieghbor. Everyone likes fireworks but they should be safe and used at a reasonable time. (Oh yeah, and they're illegal). The APD has a saying, AN OFFICER HAS TO WITNESS THE CRIME BEFORE THEY'LL DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT.
The PD said the NOISE ORDINANCE doesn't go into effect until 9PM. (We don't even have a noise ordinance and someone ought to inform that officer.) Also, how busy can the guy be if there's never any crime reported in this town? Maybe we don't need a PD, either way, there's either no crime here or they're hiding things.
Why do tax dollars buy "pleasure vehicles" anyway?
The whole idea of pleasure cars just amazes me. This tiny town has 2 of them? Can anyone defend the reason why this town needs 2 of them? Why didn't the selectman just rip them off the force last month when the cheif got his new cruiser? Please , anyone, please tell me why?
for the same reason the selectmen dont reprimand our police chief over ANY of the bad things he does, they have no stones!
