Atkinson teen suffers life-threatening injuries after crashing car into tree

By Mark E. Vogler mvogler@eagletribune.com mvogler@eagletribune.com Sun Sep 12, 2010, 10:20 AM EDT

ATKINSON — A 16-year-old Timberlane Regional High School student was in critical condition last night at Boston Medical Center after crashing his car into a tree Friday.

Police Chief Philip Consentino said emergency crews from the Atkinson Fire Department had to use a hydraulic device to remove the driver's side door and free Chris DiPietro of Atkinson from the wreckage following the crash, which occurred around 5 p.m. in front of 37 Maple Ave., near the intersection of Kelly Road. The crash forced the closure of Maple Avenue for about two hours.

"His car went sideways right into the tree," Consentino said last night. "Damage to the vehicle was extensive. It hit the tree right on the driver's door and completely demolished the vehicle."

He said the results of a preliminary investigation revealed that speed may have been a factor in the crash.

"We called in the Salem police accident reconstruction team to determine whether it was," Consentino said. "Once we get their report, we'll know more."

DiPietro was initially taken to Lawrence General Hospital, but later flown by medical helicopter to Boston.

So sad I hope he is ok. Does anyone know?

All word is that it is a poor outlook. My daughter is going in to see him tonight but things are very bad. Pray please.

I hope the community can come together and feel for the dipietro's. Many of us should look in the mirror and realize this tragedy can happen to any of us.

I don't think this type of article should be printed on this blog. This goes for the previous one about the photographers.

We should have had a debate about the candidates instead.

Downing is 100% disabled and collecting a disability pension and will also be collectinga full paycheck if he wins.

I think the Sherriff needs to be a qualified police officer and not double dipping.

I'm sure the Dipietro family appreciates your warm, heart felt sentiment to them in their time of need.

YOU should have posted a request for a separate article submission OR contacted the webmaster to voice your concern...NOT act an asshole and turn this into a political discussion.

I did post previously so don't call me names when you are being the you-know what.

This is NOT the place for these types of articles.

Anon @ 12:10, actually it IS the place for these kinds of articles according to this blogs mission statement. From the main page:

This Blog is a forum for the discussion of predominantly Atkinson; Officials, People, Ideas, and Events.

I believe this article would fall under the "People" and "Events" section. If you wish to start a political discussion only blog for Atkinson, then you can set those guidelines.

This has been almost entirely a blog for politics since it's inception.

If my family were going thru a crisis, the last thing I would want would be to have people commenting on it here. This blog does not have to be like the local newspaper where people feel free to say anything and end up writing some being rude and insensitive remarks.

Like you did. YOU are turning this into a fight when I was respectful.

This subject is not a DISCUSSION subject and should not be on a blog.

Anonymous said...

Actually it IS a discussion topic, hence the posts. Funny how that works. The blog admin has decided to repost stories that pertain to Atkinson. Since Chris DiPietro is an Atkinson resident, then it makes sense that the blog admin reposts the story keeping in line with the history of this blog.

While MOST of the topics pertain to politics, not all. The Osborn/Davis row, for instance, is a civil matter and yet much time is being spent on it, some political, some not.

As with any outlet, if you don't like the content, then you don't need to read or watch it. It's a pretty simple equation. If you wish to have an all political Atkinson blog, then by all means start one.

You should be ashamed. Chris is still fighting for his life. No more of these comments please and please pray for Chris to pull through and for his family to have strength during this horrific tragedy.

We are praying for Chris. Please let his family know that their neighbors are praying for him and standing with them.

With all due respect to the previous posters, there have been numerous articles on this blog about anything having to do with Atkinson or Timberlane, yes most of the articles may have political or controversial underpinnings, but that does not preclude any other news about the town.

Good luck Chris

Mark,

I understand your points. It is too bad the moderator does not do a better job moderating the topics. They are constantly hijacked and go off topic. Personal attacks are also allowed. It's too bad...

I hate to post under this article, but due to no recent ones etc...
Look at the video posted In the Atkinson-Factor.blogspot.com

We are all praying for Chris' well being. @ everyone turning this into a debate and a fight. Shut up. Chris is fighting for his life and you're here DEBATING under an article about him? It's disrespectful not only to him and his family, but everyone worrying for him. So just shut up.
