Atkinson home burglarized

By Doug Ireland direland@eagletribune.com The Eagle Tribune Tue Oct 19, 2010, 12:49 AM EDT

ATKINSON — Police Chief Philip Consentino is concerned about a rash of burglaries in town, especially one Friday when an intruder broke into a house in the daytime when the homeowner was sleeping.

The burglary occurred on Crown Point Road between 7 and 10 a.m., when someone entered the house by breaking a window in the front door, Consentino said yesterday.

The intruder ransacked the house, stealing numerous items, including jewelry, before fleeing, the police chief said.

"The disturbing aspect of the event was the homeowner was sleeping in the upstairs bedroom during the burglary," Consentino said. "When they do it when a resident is in the house, it was a real red flag for us."

Consentino said this is the third burglary in Atkinson in three months. He asks that anyone who is home when a burglar enters gets out as soon as possible without confronting the intruder. The resident should then call 911 from a safe location, Consentino said.

"This is the third one we've had (recently), so it's been a problem," he said. Atkinson police can be reached at 362-4001.

Burglaries have been a big problem in other Southern New Hampshire towns, including some where the rate has risen 50 percent, according to area police.

Salem police said they had 56 burglaries by the end of September compared with 50 in all of 2008 and 51 in 2009.

In Derry, there have been between 175 and 180 this year, police said.

Don't call 362-4001, it's not a recorded line....unless you want your call to go missing.

Call 362-5536 instead.

Chief looked pretty sharp last night with the BOS. One question who is more arrogant Friel or Bennet?

Even though Phil had the wrong paperwork and was trying his famous 'razzle dazzle" he still won. Mr Friel and Bennet , you tried to flex your muscles but who ended up making the copies? Maybe Phil should spend some of his training $ on how to operate a copier!!! PVC will always win!! LONG LIVE THE KING!!!!!

Does the trustee still dine at the Village Store? or has he moved up to Eggies or AHOP? If the trustee is the guy in the green costume I pulled into the PD the other day to drop off some paperwork and it must have been his naptime, he was sound asleep on the recliner in the shed, was that a union break?

If this wasn't Mayberry I would have sworn that the young guy in the suit was the Chief of Police and the old guy in the sweatshirt was speaking on behalf of the Elderly Program.

You know who Fred reminds me of when watching Monday Night Madness? The guy on Tool Time with Tim Allen who you never see. No, wait a minute that guy has more intelligence in one episode than Childs has had in all his terms on the Board. Why do we always have to look at Woodsie the Owl, Bennett?

The other day, maybe a few weeks ago, I saw Mr Bennett stopped by one of Atkinson's finests men in blue, just wondering if he got a free pass because he is such a supportive selectman or if he received the same treatment Mr Acciard received a while back?

Ahh, take a story about Atkinson and no matter how remote the connection bring it right back to bashing the town officials. I see you're all continuing to do your part to make this town a better place.

Don't worry anon @ 3:30PM. March is coming up and I'm sure the ballot will be filled with bloggers eager to contribute!

Anonymously facetious

Who is the trustee?

Does anyone else feel that Bennet repeatedly tries to make himself look superior at all the Selectments meeting? Noone cares that you are an engineer. People get annoyed when you talk down to them. Time to come down off of your chair, and back to reality.

We have had some winners as selectmen in the past, Boyle, Sapia, Charlie George but none so arrogant as William Bennett, this man is no good for this town!
