Salem selectmen ask court to remove Campbell

By Kiera Blessing kblessing@eagletribune.com

SALEM, N.H. — In a 4-1 vote Monday, Salem selectmen decided to petition Rockingham Superior Court to remove Selectman Stephen Campbell from office after finding he broke the law by revealing confidential information to the press in 2014.
Earlier this month, police captain and head of the Salem Public Administrators Association Robert Morin alleged that Campbell had brought information regarding the internal investigation of a former police employee to The Eagle-Tribune in a violation of state public record laws. Though he is not named in Morin’s allegation, former Deputy Police Chief Shawn Patten is at the center of the dispute.
“I think it’s a sad day for Salem. I think it’s a sad day for the board. It’s unfortunate that it came to this, but we can’t tolerate laws being broken,” Keller told the Tribune. “I went into it (the investigation) objectively, and the facts are the facts.”
Campbell admitted bringing information to the Tribune, but denied any wrongdoing during the meeting and declined to comment after the meeting was adjourned. He said that he received information about a town employee through a Right to Know request years ago, and believed this information fell under the same qualifications for public access, rendering it not confidential.
Keller described the findings of his own internal investigation, conducted in coordination with the town attorney, to the board before presenting the selectman with three options: to find Campbell innocent of wrongdoing, to move to censure him, or to petition the court to have Campbell removed from office.
Selectman Michael Lyons made a motion to petition the court to remove Campbell from office. Fellow board member Lisa Withrow seconded the motion.
“I think the town is in danger of injury again and I’ve had enough, and the four of us need to separate ourselves from Selectman Campbell,” Lyons said. “The four of us have an obligation to separate the town from Selectman Campbell and we need to do so now.”
Everett McBride struggled with the decision for a moment, but said he did believe Campbell broke the law. The board voted for Campbell’s removal, 4-1, with Campbell as the lone dissenter.
Applause briefly broke out from the crowded room full of police personnel, but Keller quickly called the room to order, saying “There’s no glory in this for anyone.”
“I don’t believe I did anything wrong,” Campbell said. “There are other matters that the town manager is aware of that should be taken care of, because there’s a lot going on underneath the surface here. So you can pretend that this is just me, but there are things happening here, happening to me, happening to other people that just aren’t right. ... I hope those complaints are taken as seriously as these are.”
A petition requesting Campbell’s removal from office will be sent to Rockingham Superior Court. Until a decision is rendered, Campbell will continue to serve on the board in his full capacity.
Morin said he was pleased with the outcome.
“Clearly, Chairman Keller certainly took it serious and I thought did an outstanding investigation,” Morin said. “I think Selectman Keller said it best: this isn’t good for anybody. It’s an embarrassment to the town but it needed to be dealt with and obviously I’m pleased with how they chose to handle it.”
Morin added that he hopes Campbell will resign.
“There’s going to be a lawsuit — there’s no ifs, ands, buts or maybes about it,” he said. “The town is in great danger and has a lot of liability on it because of his actions.”

This is what should have been done to you know who years ago. Cowardly owned board members, cost us a lot of money on legal and settlement costs.

@8:49 totally different sounds like you are commenting on stuff you don't even know what you are talking about in the Salem case, but nice try trying to compare just goes to show you that there are a lot of fools in the world with agenda's

Anonymous said...

Same story, more integrity in Salem.

Anonymous said...

What was and has been done in Atkinson is far more worst than any thing happening in Salem. I agree with 8:49 AM . The town leadership failed to do its job in getting rid of its problem with the Conman when it should have. He and his cronies are still here and I'm waiting to see how much more its going to cost the town before they finally go away once and for all.

Well, church lady, sounds like Salem news has got you in a whirl...

you'll be ok, springs in the air.. relax, enjoy the planet... Choose
to be a nice person and not a Biddiebanger

Anonymous said...

YOU sound like the church lady biddiebanger.

Anonymous said...

Do farts have lumps?

Anonymous said...

No lumps just the smell of Atkinson politics. Get out the odor eliminating spay and use it to clear the town of its gas source.

Anonymous said...

@6:15 no I think its from all the adult depends of the nuts who actually go to the town meetings.

Anonymous said...

Even the adults you refer to can't be all that wrong. Not all use depends. While sitting for a time watching the proceedings those who do have to stand or leave to go to the bathroom to get comfortable due to heavy thickness of the depends. Of course you wouldn't know that but then your the one who thinks your smell in politics is a favorable odor to everyone else. Try smelling someone elses gas any where released and compare it to your own. I'll bet you will find it more offensive than your own. Just an opinion from and old ,as you say, gas bag that wears depends, or then do I.

Oh my, just when I thought this place couldn't get
any more bizarre, the church lady speaks of her depends...

Mark, these are your followers, you must be so proud,
your reputation " depends" on them

Hey at least she changes them instead of wearing them for eternity like some peoples soiled reputations.

Clearly there are no women posting here. Church lady is a man in drag from the cartoon that has become Atkinson.

ATKINSON, N.H. — An Atkinson man who sued town officials for First Amendment violations and recently told the selectmen another resident was destroying public roads was arrested Thursday afternoon on a charge of reckless conduct.

But police yesterday would offer few details about the arrest or any events leading up to it.

Leon Artus of Maple Avenue, no age given, has been charged with misdemeanor reckless conduct for a motor vehicle-related incident, Detective Sgt. Phil Farrar said.

2009 Leonotis one of the few real men that stood up to the town when no one would. Old news and Maggie got it pretty good after all the lies Leon brought to the surface. The good part conman was exposed as doing a favor in the good old boys circle for her and they got caught. Thank's for the memories is was the beginning to the end for the friends of the conman. hahahahaha BTW Farrar was told to set Leon up and he did so another charge was dropped just like all the other cooked up ones.

Anonymous said...

I recall this fabricated situation. They made a mountain out of nothing, arrested the man, decided to give him discovery, dropped the charges. There's a pattern to them using the PD to mess with their perceived enemies. They are pathetic if you ask me.

Anonymous said...

Typo above, they did not give Leon discovery.

Anonymous said...

The Atrkinson PD did an outstanding job, these nuts and xenophobe's should be held in check.

Anonymous said...

Since when is holding back discovery or setting them up an outstanding job?

Anonymous said...

Who cares how they did it , we need to keep the local whiners, loud mouths, cry babies and Xenophobe's who show up at every meeting looking to fight over the town ordering to many paper clips, we already got rid of one of the nuts we want our town back, not put on the front page of the ET every day with bougus lawsuits.

Time to shut the mic off on these old dust bags.

Anonymous said...

Having your family harassed and way too many lawsuits that cost the town lots of dough is not the same as ordering paper clips. If the town operated by the state's laws and just common decency things would be much better. The town is and was on the front page of the paper to show what happens when the voters let the people running the town do whatever they want. What is so bad about asking for transparency and following simple rules of order for elected officials? Just because most of the time an elected official doe his job the other times he cannot be breaking the law.

Anonymous said...

"Who cares how they did it"? Are you 7:13 PM suggesting that the method of achieving your objective to get rid of people you don't like is not important? Do you think that you can do anything you want to others just to get rid of them? Where are your scruples? BTW, It's not YOUR town. It's OUR town. People that want to come to meetings and hold people responsible should be allowed to do so without fear of retribution by those who think they can do what ever the heck they want.

Anonymous said...

Correct its OUR town and the majority refuse to allow a few whacked out dementia laden xenophobe's take over what the majority voted for, by the end of the meetings most of you can't find your cars and even if you do you shouldn't be driving anyway, time to put the kibosh on you local rambling old fools.

Anonymous said...

Majority voted for Obama also. Mostly like you the under informed and wanting a free phone. Most that voted here want to protect their gravy train. The others were too busy working to pay our high liability insurance on our elected officials.

We have a serious problem with bullying in Town and it's evident right here on this blog. Nothing lasts forever!! We'll see how the town operates when certain corrupt individuals are out of power. The day will come.

Anonymous said...

@ 8:30, lets see about your logic, you have a blog which bullies and provokes people but yet you complain about being bullied? does you realize how sick you are?

Anonymous said...

I said that we have a bullying problem in town, and we do. I said we have some corrupt people in town, and we do. Bullying is WRONG. There is nothing illogical about what I said. I see that you partake by your attack on me.

Anonymous said...

We need all the town officials and volunteers and employees to take a pledge to be good neighbors and treat everyone with respect and dignity. Someone ought to start this up. Maybe that moderator, Jim.

Anonymous said...

Jim is owned also. Sometimes I feel it is an up hill battle. The bully's don't bother me but it has made good people not want to get involved. I don't blame them they don't think the town is worth the risk of facing the wrath of the town officials. One good soul didn't put up with their selective code enforcement and quit. I respect him even more for this.

Another bully at 8:35.
We don't know if 6:56 is a woman.

Anonymous said...

Honey you might want to smell me but I am not a town employee so your chances are nil! Unless you want to try my frying pan on for size. Come on over "big" boy!

To the last three posts, Being able to read between the lines you've posted hasn't there been enough of sex uninvited without being invited here?

Anonymous said...

What a nasty little town.

Anonymous said...

One would think that after the Conmans offensive actions there wouldn't be more sexual innuendo in town but there is. Where does it stop?

Anonymous said...

Libel Slander ALERT! @ 1:13

Anonymous said...

Hey big boy the truth is not slander. You of all 👮 people should know this.

Anonymous said...

4/8@3:35PM, What has been made public about the Conmans past actions can't be denied or there would have been slander suits brought by now. Public records are the truth and can not be denied nor be held libelous for being made public when it is the TRUTH. The reason for his firing and the resulting monetary awards he caused the town is enough to say your wrong. Nice try though!!

Anonymous said...

There is no slander when there is truth especially when there is documenting that proves it is the truth. You must be blind and or deaf, maybe both, not to have seen or heard what the past Conman antics and resulting in his firing and the many court actions that have been made public.

He's still here and he's still doing it, and his network of sociopathic followers is growing like a cancer.

Anonymous said...

You could be right about it growing like cancer but I do not agree that he has that many followers. In time with out treatment cancer will kill you. With radical treatment -[ the ballot box]- this problem will finally go away. May be that is all it will take to rid the town of its cancers.

Anonymous said...

@9:34 or your the Cancer and the treatment -{the ballot box} has sent you into remission to a blog, like a loser cry baby.

Anonymous said...

The only losers are the tax payer. We deserve much better than what we get in the bs you know who rained down on resident's.

Anonymous said...

4:00PM I'm far from being one of the "cancers" in town and I'm not a loser cry baby. I'm far better the adult than you are. Your message shows your mentality ,especially where it/you back the wants of keeping the towns cancer in place. Your just another nut case that should take up residence at Hampstead Hospital. Normal people would rather get rid of the town cancers but your definitely different from the norm of the tax payers in town. JMHO is all!!!!

Anonymous said...

Ah the church lady spews her nonsense...again

Put the lotion in the basket...

Anonymous said...

It's only a matter of time before the cancer is removed or they succumb. Once the cat's out of the bag, it's hard to ignore it or hide it.

8:52AM "Isn't that special"!!! You remember the church lady but act like the devil to be active here at anyones cost. What a jerk you are.Get a life!
