Atkinson Loses a "favorite son"

ARTICLE SUBMISSION REQUEST

Carol Grant said...

Mr. Moderator,

Is there any chance that you would post the below invitation as a separate article/notice at the top of the blog -- just until next
Wednesday's funeral?

AN INVITATION

Chet Ladd, Atkinson's long-time very dedicated Town Forester and Conservation Commission member and Chairman, recently died in Florida. His widow, Dorothy (Dot) will be bringing his remains back to Atkinson for burial in Atkinson Cemetery on Wednesday morning, June 17 at 11:00 a.m.

Mrs. Ladd would like to invite Atkinson town officials and residents who knew him, of him, or worked with him, to the grave-side service and final gathering for Chet.

After the interment, everyone is invited to the home of our former Atkinson Town Clerk, Linda Jette Johnson, 3 Forest Road, for refreshments and to share remembrances of Chet.

Atkinson owes a lot to Chet for his hard work, time commitment and dedication to preserving and caring for Atkinson's natural resources for so many years. Chet left a lot of great foot prints in Atkinson's many town forest and consrvation land parcels.

We hope all of you who knew Chet and respected his dedication to Atkinson's environmental quality of life will be able to attend the graveside sericve and gathering fterwards at Linda's home.

It's the Chief's fault.

This is the type of comment that the moderator should not post.

there is no moderation on. That is why infantile comments like that get on here.

You've seen it before from Chief supporters, what else would you expect from them?

You're even worse, with your indescriminate generalizations and categorations!

Why is there something on Ladd, but nothing on John Lapham? Sad.

Carol - I took the liberty of forwarding this to Charlie Moreno and Phil Auger, and asking them to pass it on to the forestry community.

For those who enjoy our town forests and trails without wondering why Atkinson's route 121 looks different from Plaistow's route 125, you owe it to Chet Ladd as much as Carol Grant. Both were members of the conservation commission from its founding in the 70s until the 90's. Chet retired in the mid-90's.

I have a file cabinet full of their work at my house...there's no room for the files at town hall.

Every time I have to research some wetlands violation or the latest HAWC outrage, and dig into the files left from Chet and Carol's work, I am floored by their dedication, drive, and ability to chase federal, state, and private dimes to spare the taxpayer.

Chet founded a town firewood program, and went out himself to cut wood with anyone who might not know which end of a chainsaw gets the wood down. I am still trying to figure out how to do this without getting the town sued.

So shut up about Phil, who has nothing to do with this, and let's give Chet the sendoff he deserves next Wednesday.

Dear Mr. Moderator,

Would you please the following announcement as soon as possible so as to reach as many people as possible who were going to attend Chet Ladd's funeral.

Chet's widow, Dot Ladd, physically
collapsed today and was rushed to the emergency room at the Ocala,
Florida, hospital.

She will be hospitalized for several days and has asked that it be announced that this Wednesday's funeral has had to be postponed.

The new date will be announced after she is released from the hospital.
