Atkinson Country Club opens par 3 course

From the Eagle Tribune;

Atkinson Country Club opens par 3 course
By Eric Parry
eparry@eagletribune.com

ATKINSON — Children and new golfers will feel right at home at the new par 3 golf course opening tomorrow at the Atkinson Resort and Country Club.

The 18-hole course can be intimidating for new golfers, so the new course offers four tees to hit from on each of the course's nine holes. There are also very few hazards, like water or sand traps, to get in the way, according to Wayne Swanson, an assistant golf professional.

The shortest two tees on each hole are right on the fairway to make it even easier for younger golfers, Swanson said.

"This was designed for the family in mind," he said.

As a public golf course, Swanson said, they have a lot of beginner golfers on the weekends who may decide to play on the new course instead of the larger 18-hole course.

But more serious golfers will enjoy the course, too.

The smaller greens require the golfer to be more accurate with their shots.

"It's a great tool for working on your short game," Swanson said.

The course is located on the back of the resort property and was constructed over the fall and winter, according to Swanson.

One of the course's highlights is the view from the eighth hole, which overlooks the Merrimack River Valley.

"It's going to be real pretty in the fall," Swanson said.

The new course will also be used in golf clinics for children and adults.

Atkinson's new course joins just two other local par 3 courses in the area. One is located on Brookstone Park on Route 111 in Derry and the other is Murphy's Garrison Golf Center in Haverhill, Mass.

Swanson said another draw to the course for children will be the price. Children ages 3 to 9 only pay their age.

"We've had a lot of kids in our clinics excited about that," Swanson said.

For nine holes, the new course will cost $15 midweek and $25 on weekends. Eighteen holes cost $17 midweek and $27 on weekends.

Well, how about this.

I followed the proceeding on this little project. Seems the ACC did not bother getting the necessary permits from either the town or the state until they were nearly done and were caught. A little detail ET did not mention.

Yep, a fine upstanding institution. The word, hubris (–noun: excessive pride or self-confidence; arrogance.) comes to mind.

Anonymous said...

Didn't bother getting the permits? Must be the Chief's fault.

Anonymous said...

IF it be so then the town should penalize them. IF not the town then the courts should be brought into it for a deterimination of guilt and penalty. IF, as it seems to say the least, the towns inspector appears to be asleep on the job he should answer for the neglect of not being on the job and job site to make A.C.C. get its permits. IF all this is true as is reported here action has to be taken to make an example for the next " OVER SIGHT " to come. IF is two lettered but such a big word ,IF!!!

Anonymous said...

It's not the Building Inspectors job to go looking for illegal construction sites. It was the responsibility of the ACC to seek the proper permits BEFORE they started.

Anonymous said...

How can it be they could not SEE the new construction for months?

I mean asleep at the wheel or just due for a major eye exam?

A new scandal to explain away as an oversight?

Harold Morse and Lewis Construction/Hampstead Water/East Coast Lumber have bulldozed Atkinson town government for years. Hell, Harold Morse sat on the Planning Board for years, and tried to run for selectman in the last election!

There was a Zoning Board meeting where Harold Morse went for a reapplication for the Lewis Construction Garage Inspection Station. There was a question regarding which vehicles could be inspected at the station; technically, it was supposed to be limited to only the Lewis vehicles, but they were sending all the vehicles from the other businesses also, which was a violation of the allowed use of the business.

During his bullying of the Zoning Board Mr. Morse volunteered the information that he was accepting deliveries of East Coast Lumber materials at the Lewis Construction yard, a BLATANT violation of prior use of that property.

So, what did the Zoning Board do with that information? Did they reject the application for the inspection station based on the abuse of the station for other vehicles, or punish or warn Lewis Construction about violating the prior use restrictions on that land?

NO! Sandy Carter just ignored it and kept trying to push it through (because he hasn't seen a business use he doesn't like, but God forbid if you're a resident trying to get a break...), and Frank Polito repeatedly warned Harold Morse to stop saying that he was violating the prior use limits on the land! As if he was the counsel for Lewis Construction!

Now, I'm not amoung those here that think Frank is in the tank completely for the Atkinson Mafia; I just think he lacked the stones to stand up to the very obviously bullying and blustery Harold Morse (thanks to Sandy caving on him). So what happened?

Harold Morse got what he wanted, because BIG BUSINESS OWNS ATKINSON'S BOARDS AND TOWN GOVERNMENT!

Please, please, please, someone get that tape of the Zoning Board (I think it might have been around March or so) and put that video on YouTube with a link here; show how easily Harold thinks he can get what he wants by harassing and bullying local boards, and how easily he was able to do it! Even as he admits wrongdoing (not that any of us would mind 18 wheelers coming down our streets for lumber deliveries...).

Good job ignoring the zombie's remarks!

What a stinging indictment.

The new World Trade Center rises in Atkinson.

Gees, how did that giant 10,000 story building get in the middle of Atkinson?

Don't know cause "It was the responsibility of the ACC to seek the proper permits BEFORE they started."

Very few in town have the guts to stand up to Leeis Construction in town.

I mean, how bad can they be, all they've done is setup a situation whereby they'll lower the water tables watering their TWO golf courses and their leaky wasteful wells; then, once your well dries up from their wastefulness they'll sell you your own water back through their monopoly! Through the pipeline you lent them the money to build!

See, nothing is wrong in Atkinson! Just be a good zombie!

Oh, and did you notice that the zombie was making fun of the idea that Lewis Construction runs amok in town?

One thing we can do: don't spend a PENNY at East Coast Lumber (a wholly owned subsidiary of Lewis Homes)!

How sad that those who don't share your horrific view of Atkinson are zombies and empty suits. Despite how you try to depict us, to the contrary, we are well-adjusted and can see that although the town isn't perfect, it's also nothing close to the picture you paint.

But keep up the late-night manifestos. I think it shows most normal people in town how sad and pathetic you really are.

My how I miss the well reasoned, debate of ideas based upon fact and merit that used to take place here.

Mark,

Perhaps you can settle things by explaining your listing a team member and why it was removed so quickly after someone pointed it out.

Same old same old tactics. Attack the messenger and try to discredit them.

"We are well adjusted"
"I think it shows most normal people in town how sad and pathetic you really are"

Thank God we have normal people like you to rely on. OMG.

You slander people but don't offer a single shred of evidence or facts on anything. You say the town is nothing close to the picture painted, but provide no evidence or facts to prove otherwise. Worthless smear tactics are a sign of weakness in any debate.

I'd like to see the zoning board tape. When was the meeting held? We need the date.

Hey Mark,

Don't waste you time talking to Anon July 15, 2009 3:13 PM.

He's been hanging around the blog like a leach on fish guts. His words are so empty; I've given him the appropriate name of EMPTY SUIT.

You know the type that is full of hot air and when you prick his intelligence, all the air comes out and the suit flies around backwards for an hour.

This guy couldn't play in your ballpark if he had all of Bill Gates money with someone to source the tickets.

Leave him to me. I've got a three-year-old that will keep him busy for the rest of his life. I'm only worried she will get bored, and I'll have to let her watch Diving With Dummies.

Anon 5:48,

Are you the same guy who wants to exterminate me? Mark will not say a word because he knows the truth about his involvement here. So keep up your hate speech and your 2 a.m. diatribes. You're nothing but a coward with your EMPTY SUIT cheers.

And, with all due respect, I've never levied an ounce of the personal attacks, insults, and name calling that you have.

"Leave him to me." Why? Whatcha got planned? An extermination? Should I be scared?

"I'm not going to waste any more time talking to an Empty Suit that's full of hot air."

And yet you've posted five times since then. How silly you are!

Whatever. Honestly I couldn't care less what you think about my credibility as you completely fail to understand the discussion.

I know the truth...as does Mark. Who continues to say nothing when questioned and that speaks VOLUMES.

Now THERE is a real credibility problem!

And I have the screenshots to prove it.

Mark doesn't talk to EMPTY SUITS, so if you want answers to foolish statements, go talk to your other EMPTY SUIT friends. I'm sure you have a lot of them, who no one wants to be associated with.

Let's hear the cheer

Don't respond to the empty suit/zombie; they thrive on disruption and getting attention because they weren't held enough by their mother enough.

Lack of attention kills trolls dead!

Check the zoning board minutes for the meeting; it was Lewis Construction renewing their inspection station.

I guarantee you won't believe how bold Harold Morse is in flouting his out of code use of his wife's land, and how he keeps working to intimidate Frank Polito. And you'll give Frank some credit for attempting to stand up to Morse, though Sandy Carter is a pretty embarassing example of an Atkinson board member that will force a town resident to jump through hoops and reject a petition for a minor variance, but will let a business do whatever it damn well wants, even if it isn't zoned for it.

Wait, I'm confused. Do you want us to ignore them or cheer? You can't seem to make up your mind.

The Atkinson Zoning board meeting was held on 10/08/2009. The zoning board minutes contain a lengthy description of this review (too long to post as a comment)- look for:

"REVIEW of Town Conformance regarding Inspection Station (Fleet) application to State of New Hampshire of Lewis Equipment Co., Inc. 54 Sawyer Avenue, Map 8, Lot 3-1, TR2 Zone"

Anonymous said...

also, look at the zoning board meeting of 12/10/2009 - look for

"Discussion/Review

Attorney Robert Levine: Re: Lewis Equipment Company, Inc. re: Fleet Inspection and Repair Plates for the State of NH, Department of Safety."

A gentle but yet firm reminder .. If its the police chief being the one repeating with paste and postings on the site he best stop and do his work that he is being payed for during working hours. If it is someone else working for the town do the same and above all grow up. Your jobs are at stake and retirement isn't that far off for any of you in town government. Do your thing on your own time and not on the towns time. The postings seem to be during town government business hours. Your not over worked and if you claim you are then stay away from the site until you get home. Who knows ,maybe the town can then go forward in its business as it should.
