Atkinson chief honored for work with elderly

From the Eagle Tribune;

Atkinson chief honored for work with elderly

By Eric Parry eparry@eagletribune.com

ATKINSON — When a senior citizen called requesting a ride to Newburyport later in the week, Elderly Affairs Director Philip Consentino sacrificed his own medical appointment to make sure the woman had a ride.

That's the kind of dedication to the community's senior citizens that made Consentino this year's choice for the State Committee on Aging's Joseph D. Vaughan Award.

Consentino, who is also the town's police chief, will accept the honor at a ceremony in Concord in two weeks.

He said yesterday he was honored to be chosen for the award.

"Every year, they select one person in each county who volunteers with the seniors," he said. "Some of the seniors we work with nominated me."

The annual award is given to an individual over the age of 60 who shows leadership and achievement while working with the elderly, according to the state Department of Health and Human Services.

The Elderly Affairs Department averages five to seven free transports to seniors a day to doctors' appointments, shopping and the hairdresser. The department also provides an annual flu clinic, discounts with local contractors, and free medical supplies and equipment.

Consentino has volunteered in the position for 17 years, but voters in March approved making it a $100 a year paid position.

Voters also approved the purchase of a 2010 Subaru Forester to replace a 2005 used police cruiser that had more than 148,000 miles on it for use by the department.

The new Subaru was purchased with $13,000 from the Atkinson Police Charitable Fund and $5,000 was paid for by taxpayers.

The voters may have approved some of these things but they disapprove of the fact that services are not given to all that are entitled to them. They also don't approve of the way people are attacked for asking questions about the operation of the departments.

It's the POLICE DEPARTMENT that maintains the contractor list! Get on their good side and they'll funnel you some business.

His medical appointment evidently wasn't as important as the cash cow.

Anonymous said...

Since he is no longer a volunteer, why did he get this award?

Let's all go to Concord in two weeks and watch. Bring a tomato in case you get hungry.

To be eligible for consideration, nominees must be: An individual or couple residing in New Hampshire; must be over the age of 60; must have shown outstanding leadership or demonstrated meritorious achievement, as a volunteer, on behalf of the older citizens of New Hampshire. Nominations must be received no later than March 20, 2010.

For more information contact Roger Vachon, Vaughan Award Coordinator at engagingnh@yahoo.com

Award recipients will be invited to participate in a ceremony honoring their accomplishments. The ceremony is scheduled for May 13, at the Statehouse in Concord.

They gave the award to a paid employee! He should have been disqualified.

MAcciard said...

To be fair, he probably wasn't a paid employee when nominated.

Anonymous said...

To be fair, he was a paid employee when the deadline passed for nominations, thus he was not qualified when he was chosen.

Anonymous said...

Not fair to those real volunteers who were passed over for him.

I would argue that his $24,000/yr. is 80% for elderly affairs since that is 80% of what he does, according to his own officers.

Anonymous said...

any cheese to go with all this whine?

Anonymous said...

why is there always a shadow on everything he is involved in?

Anonymous said...

Mark,

Why don't you file a complaint about the validity of his award?

Anonymous said...

There are times I feel the elderly in town are taking advantage of the tax payer. They see the corruption and still for their "free" services keep voting to make sure they get them.
I have seen people getting rides that live in 500,000+ homes as well as those that truly need some help. This is unreal! The elderly need to get some respect for themselves and help stop this insanity.

MAcciard said...

To 6:15pm,

And why exactly would I do that? Have I ever filed a complaint that had no merit?

Be specific in your answer, please

Anonymous said...

I agree, taxpayers shouldn't have to pay for this type of frill service. We should only be helping the needy, on an equal basis.

MAcciard said...

But the taxpayers have voted repeatedly to keep and maintain this service, therefore it should be a town service if that is what the taxpayers want.

Anonymous said...

Lack of transparency is the problem. We don't know who uses it and if they qualify for aid or assistance so the secrecy allows for abuse. I'd take the free rides. If the town is dumb enough to give it away to anyone why wouldn't the seniors take it even if they have other means. It takes public access to public information via 91A request and then you'd see use drop once people knew the secret list was not kept secret from taxpayers.

Anonymous said...

They have no respect for 91A and don't provide info as requested.

How come everytime CON-sentino is being investigated for something, he manages to get an award for something. Anyone else but taxpayers wonder how he uses his political pull to distract attention from the criminal investigation?

KING CON-G strikes again, but we don't buy it.

Selectmen.........FIRE THE BUM! He's a liability to our town.

FAKE AWARDS aren't worth the time and paper they are written on, just like he is.

I am not writing to agree or disagree with Gen. Philip Consentino. What I have to say, however, regards Consentino's conscious decision to place our children at imminent risk of serious harm. One of the first facts we should face is that like a verbal magician, he knows how to lie without appearing to be lying, how to bury secrets in mountains of garbage-speak. We will have to become much more vigilant to ensure that he doesn't condone illegal activities. How can he live with himself, knowing that this is a frightening realization? To rephrase that question, where do unpatriotic suborners of perjury like him come from, and what are we going to do with them? The answer may surprise you, especially when you consider that he wants us to believe that governments should have the right to lie to their own subjects or to other governments. How stupid does he think we are? Before you answer, let me point out that it's not necessarily difficult to provide people the wherewithal to deal with him appropriately. We can begin simply by responding to Consentino's allocutions. See? I told you it wasn't necessarily difficult. We just need to remember that I'm at loggerheads with Consentino on at least one important issue. Namely, he argues that he can change his pugnacious ways. I take the opposite position, that Consentino has for a long time been arguing that he can succeed without trying. Had he instead been arguing that he is completely unaware of the difference between a correlation and a causation, I might cede him his point. As it stands, the leap of faith required to bridge the logical gap in Consentino's arguments is simply too terrifying for me to contemplate. What I do often contemplate, however, is how I honestly feel that he has insulted everyone with even the slightest moral commitment. Consentino obviously has none or he wouldn't fleece us.

A central fault line runs through each of Consentino's stratagems. Specifically, those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it. Of course, if Consentino had learned anything from history, he'd know that the acid test for his "kinder, gentler" new recommendations should be, "Do they still divert attention from Consentino's unprovoked aggression?" If the answer is yes then we can conclude that Consentino's narcissistic self-identification with all of the traumata of his repressed diathesis towards vigilantism has made him put political correctness ahead of scientific rigor. I mean, think about it.

Forgive me for boring you with all the gory details, but if I had to choose the most power-drunk specimen from Consentino's welter of stuck-up gabble, it would have to be Consentino's claim that university professors must conform their theses and conclusions to his disdainful prejudices if they want to publish papers and advance their careers. The first thing we need to do is to get Consentino to admit that he has a problem. He should be counseled to recite the following:

•I, Philip Consentino, am a brusque loan shark.
•I have been a participant in a giant scheme to quash other people's opinions.
•I hereby admit my addiction to philistinism. I ask for the strength and wisdom to fight this addiction.
Once Consentino realizes that he has a problem, maybe then he'll see that denominationalism is not confined to any specific era, culture, or country. This is equivalent to saying that by allowing him to turn back the clock and repeal all the civil rights and anti-discrimination legislation now on the books we are selling our souls for dross. Instead, we should be striving to enable adversaries to meet each other and establish direct personal bonds that contradict the stereotypes they rely upon to power their self-centered hijinks. I could be wrong about any or all of this, but at the moment, the above fits what I know of history, people, and current conditions. If anyone sees anything wrong or has some new facts or theories on this, I'd love to hear about them.

To suggest that CON-sentino actually realizes he has done anything wrong, would be like he stating that WWII never happened, with the elderly agreeing.

CON-sentino is a bully with a badge, crook who takes advantage of the Elderly that vote for him.

He and the elderly are making a good argument to dissolve elderly affairs, both are delusional. Good program corruptly administrated.

What are you doing for the the next three years? We need more people to speak up. The BOS are hearing from disgruntled residents but more need to come forward.

Anonymous said...

People ARE speaking up, coming out, suing the town for what the town officials do that is shameful. This goes on for the next 30 years or until Atkinson officials obey the laws.

Prank Polito is going to be the lions "Person of the year"
' Have the Lions gone mad? I mean, person of the year?

Anonymous said...

If they want to embarass themselves and lower the themselves to this level, so be it. It will prove the caliber of those in the club.

He quit his elected office, almost lost his job over his postings, had his work laptop confiscated, doesn't know the meaning of the right to know law, aided deceitful people in ruining another persons property. This and all the personal problems he has had over the past year. Where there's smoke, there's fire.

Two lawsuits have come up because of this man recently, others are sure to follow.

The Selectmen having been trying to get him to retire before they arrest him for something. It's coming and I think it's worth the wait.

I got together with some neighbors recently and the talk went rigth to all the trouble in town and all the compaints from residents, centered on the PD orf course. Everyone, I mean everyone present had a recent unresolved problem they raised with the town and were ignored. EVERYONE there!!

If you ask the BOS, tey will tell you many people are complaining but they have yet to step up and solve this stuff. They would rather go around pretending everything is ok, but we all know what's going on! They do not look too bright or impartial at this point. How humiliating for them.

The Lions ought to start by removing the very unflattering ( downright creepy) photo on their Events page. yuck. Don't replace it with you-know-who-in-the-cardboard-crown.

Anonymous said...

Looks like the Lions are being eaten by the few deer making a lot of tracks in the snow.

The deer herd is growing fast and they are hungry. Bring on the Lions so we can make them an endangered species. The sooner the better. Consentino looks like a FAT, JUICY, OLD, WEAK one ready to be devoured. Polito, Sapia and both Childs aren’t getting any younger either. Sharpen up the hooves and be ready to put them out of their misery. The young ones need milk.
