Atkinson decides committee members in random drawing

Atkinson decides committee members in random drawing

ATKINSON — Names written on slips of paper and drawn out of a box decided two write-in candidates for town boards yesterday afternoon.

Town Clerk Rose Cavalear said there were two vacant positions that had to be decided by a random drawing since there were no declared candidates and multiple write-in candidates who received the same number of votes in voting Tuesday.

Resident Jim Lavoie happened to go into the town clerk's office and was drafted to draw the names out of the box.

Bill Smith has been chosen to serve a three-year term on the Budget Committee. Smith was one of four write-in candidates, each with two votes.

Michael Emmons was chosen to serve a three-year term on the Conflict of Interest Committee. Emmons was one of 20 candidates, each with one vote.

Cavalear said she still needs to contact Smith and Emmons to see if they will accept the positions. If not, each board will appoint a member to fill the vacancy.

I don't know either of these people but I wish them the best of luck. I only hope that they do the jobs they are accepting with neither pride nor prejudice.

And thank you to those of you who wrote me in for Budget Committee and Moderator, but my wife would kill me if I got involved again. But thank you for the support.

Volunteering is a screening process for Town officials. If the volunteer doesn't go along with the Political Agenda of the Police Chief and various other town officials, they are castigated, demeaned and tossed aside until they can find someone that will do their bidding.

It's now wonder we can't find good people to volunteer. Perhaps if we could get rid of the bad people, we could get our Town back. Who wants to take the chance of having their car and home vandalized with: MOVE……LEAVE THE CHIEF ALONE……..MOVE!!! This act should prove to us who the real problem is.

Town officials aren’t complaining about the lack of people to fill town positions, they are grinning ear to ear because they can throw a couple of names of people they want and then draw the names out of a hat.

Democracy has been hijacked in this town, and until CON-sentino and his supporters have been removed, we can look forward to more of the same. Is that what the elderly and other taxpayers really want for their kids, friends and neighbors?

We need more people like Mr. Acciard, and less people like CON-sentino.

Democracy works just fine. The problem is when only 19% of the town comes out to vote. Lots of complaining here...not a lot of votes to back it up though!

Democracy does not work when only 19% of the town comes out to vote. This blog needs to raise awareness with all voters, that their money and rights are being taken away from them.
