Atkinson man accused of using stolen credit card for a year

PLAISTOW — A 72-year-old Atkinson man is being charged with felony theft after he admitted he used a stolen credit card to buy more than $2,000 worth of gasoline in the last year, police said.

John Murrey of 12 Linebrook Road turned himself in to police Tuesday on four fraud charges and one receiving stolen property charge.

Deputy Chief Kathleen Jones said the four fraud charges are all felonies.

A Haverhill woman reported to police on March 5 that she had been having unauthorized charges on a debit card she lost that date back two years, according to Jones.

The victim told police the bank had since issued her a new card, but the charges appear on her monthly bank statements, according to Jones.

A Plaistow police officer visited at least three of the gas stations where Murrey used the card to identify him and his blue Dodge Durango, according to Jones.

On March 11, the officer spotted Murrey pumping gas at the Cumberland Farms in Plaistow and he agreed to be interviewed at the station, Jones said.

When questioned by police on March 11, he told police he used the card to buy $2,325 worth of gas in the last year, police said.

"He said he found the card on top of a gas pump," Jones said.

Murrey was released on $10,000 personal recognizance bail pending his arraignment May 3 in Plaistow District Court.

Sounds like something the OSBORNS would do. Why should they get off with illegal taking? If they get off, this guy should get off, right?

This guy shouldn't get off, so why should the OSBORNS get off for what they consider WHITE COLAR CRIMES?

Osborns are nothing but WHITE COLAR criminals. They need to spend time in jail. The both of them need to spend time in jail!

Send the message voters, no relief for criminals.

Osbornes blah, blah, blah. Chief, blah, blah, blah. Polito, blah, blah, blah. Sapia, blah, blah, blah.....

And on and on and on.

Does anyone see the irony that once health care reform is brought up in the Osborn thread, all of the Osborn haters are screaming to stay on topic. Yet, they have no issue with hijacking this thread and crowbar the Osborns into the discussion.

Petty, petty people.

Funny! Plaistow PD making busts in Atkinson. good thing we have a real police department nearby! LOL LOL LOL

Last post. Please reread the article. The Plaistow police confronted the man in Plaistow. We should be ashamed that he if FROM Atkinson. Not the bust in Atkinson.

Also. How do the Osborns end up in this. The article does mention them. Stick with the subject. If you want to go after the Osborns...post to one of the articles that deals with them.

I'm not a fan of the Osborns (crooks in their own right) but post elsewhere.

Back to the initial posting (which all subsequent postings should be about and not go off target from):

I know John Murrey and his family. They're nice people struggling through hard economic times (as are so many others).

I was saddened to read about what John did and don't at all condone his actions-- which was theft.
An innocent credit card holder was stolen from -- a card holder very probably going through the same economic hardship that John and his family were suffering through.

What makes John's behavior worse was that it wasn't a one-time poor choice, but became a bad, dishonest pattern over a large amount of time because he saw that he could get away with it.

That a nice man like John could, because of financial hardship, stoop to engage in such deplorable behavior makes one wonder if in all of us there is the possibility of doing something dishonest. Financial desperation changes people's values, in this case for the worst.

No excuses for John's behavior, just sadness about the financial desperation and conditions that drove such a nice person to do something so desparate and so wrong.

He deserves punishment for what he did and he will be. Because of his normal temperament, imprisonment will be disasterous. It will destroy both him and his family. So sad.

Whats the diff. from the Chief charging the town for APD staff to do work for his private business.
So sad.

I smell a rat here. We heard this same story in the previous post. It is hard to believe a self made millionaire, whom one would assume has learned a few things over the years would have this number of misspellings: economac, bootstrips, salf, millionare, edumacation, liberel, and my favorite, thiefary.

This has to be a joke right? This is just a story made up to slander people you don't like and try to justify it.

If you are real, and so bloody rich, buy a dictionary, or go to dictionary.com.

It is one thing to be an idiot, it is quite another to open your mouth and prove it.

And this is jmho

and anuther thing. Im disbled and so what if I cant tipe or spell? Are you calling a handycapped person a rat?

Anonymous said...

"I smell a rat here"

Now, see. That is the problem. You hear a comment, not calling anyone anything. A commonly used phase to describe suspicious activity. Suddenly, "Are you calling a handycapped person a rat?" it is all about you again. You'd also think if you were handicapped, you would at least know how to spell that word.

I fail to understand how you could be a millionaire if you can't understand English, never mind you can't spell it.

And meenwhile, your hands are in my front pockit grabbing at my tax bays. Between my wrecktum and my tax bays, I dont know if Im comming or going.

Uhhh. Why did they put up film over the APD window? What don't they want anyone to see them doing....over and over and over and over and over.

So sad.

I did talk to John last week and he told me he left the Acadamy because his wife has cancer. It gets worse.

Maybe senior transport made John do it? Isn’t the evil, jackbooted, goose-stepping, senior transport shock troops, and their leader, the Chief (rumored to be Beelzebub by the Trolls), and Beelzebub’s sidekick, the Town Administrator (the so-called Anti-Christ), responsible for all the conspiracy “evildoing” posted on this yellow news site…oops, I mean blog?
