Does Atkinson do enough for it's Elderly?

Oh yes, we have Phil's taxi service, and as good as that is, he has very little information on State and Federal programs available to our Fixed income elderly citizens.

Imagine, if you will, a TRUE ONE STOP SHOP for ALL Elderly services in town. One where our rides program can go from being a political favor swap for a megamaniacal, self aggrandizing bully. To a True enhanced service for elderly people. ALL Elderly in Atkinson, without excluding those who have pissed people off.

One where, if you need heating oil assistance, the director can help you with the Federal and State HEAP programs, and after that can help you with Town sponsored programs. One where Senior bus trips seamlessly interface with senior games nights, and bingo, and book and discussion clubs.

Here is the beauty of this plan.... The Taxpayers of Atkinson are already paying for this, they are just not getting it efficiently. This TAXPAYER FUNDED PROGRAM can be run without having to listen to anyone constantly craving public adoration for doing their job. Without having to listen to anyone constantly shouting, Hey, Look what I've done!!!

People of Atkinson are good people! Elderly do not allow your kind feeling to be used to thwart accountability. The good people of Atkinson have constantly voted to help our Elderly, and have constantly voted to increase the funding! NEVER have the voters of Atkinson voted to reduce or eliminate this program, in spite of what you have been told.

When the selectmen finally decide to hold a public meeting to discuss separating Elderly Affairs from it's incestuous relationship with the police dept. and move it to the community center, Tell them you want it moved and improved!

Let Elderly Affairs be all it can be!

In response to the question, I don't really know how to answer because we have no documented, audited proof showing the true level of support the town provides our elderly other than some of the basic services we are aware of that we read about in the paper or annual report. I know Noriko does a lot under her program. I read we somehow paid for 1,644 senior transports in the 2007 Town report on a miracle budget of $19,000. I see the chief does teas and breakfasts and fall bus tours, etc with his police equipment fund donation money. The selectmen meeting minutes indicate he sometimes uses those funds to buy seniors fuel (votes) and pay other bills (more votes) and hands out walkers and things like that (you know, to people he decides are worthy, that he gets votes from). But that was all being handled illegally so I don't know about that anymore. Maybe his new charitable account will provide other things besides funding his mailing propaganda machine. Should we count all his mail as a senior benefit or is it junk mail?

Someone please point me to the town information that describes all of the things the town currently does for our seniors. Then I could better answer your question.

I have heard from so many elderly in town, and out of town, and Atkinson is by FAR the best elderly around here. Hampstead, Salem, and Sandown all wish they had Atkinson's program. Give phil a break he does a great job I'm sick of hearing him bad mouthed

Not to move off topic but I have a few observations yesterday while traveling through town.

1. Was that a new Dodge Charger cruiser I seen driving out of the new library parking lot? Did the chief get his way again?

2. The dumping of raw sewage continues in the Lewis field. This time it is in the back of the estate so that the "general" public does not pick up on it and call it into the DES. Has anyone else noticed this? I guess Atkinson has its own "crap" circles.

If you can take a step back and look at it impartially, you will see that all the "bad mouthing" of Phil, is due to his own actions!

1.)He didn't have to chase Mr. Kaye out of a selectmen's meeting screaming insanely at him.

2.) He didnt have to order police to get Carol Grant, her husband, and son out of the town hall, just for reading a letter.

3.) He didn't have to have Brian Boyle's Son investigated.

4.) He didn't have to have Dale Childs investigated.

5.) He didn't have to have Mark Acciard investigated.

6.) He didn't have to disobey a court order.

7.) He didn't have to waste thousands of our dollars on his personal legal bills.

8.) He didn't have to threaten to "turn Mass. cars away at the border on Halloween.

9.) He didn't have to operate an illegal slush fund.

10.) He didn't have to slam the table and scream at Carol Grant on TV.

Do I have to continue?

any bad mouthing he has received he earnd.

Actually, there ARE several state programs which offer help to the seniors. When the Chief would come in to seek approval for expenditures from his elderly account, I recall hearing - more than once - expenditures for fuel assistance for a senior. I wondered then if the Chief ever bothered to explore the State Fuel Assistance program. There is transportation available; Salem Caregivers, I believe, will send a volunteer to help with some household chores which may be too difficult for the elderly. I'm sure there are several others.

Phil does an admirable job for those people whom he likes. But he DOES discriminate!

Once the basic disputes on our elderly affairs are resolved, perhaps someone should investigate what is available through the State.

One other thing Phil does that's a good thing is offer geriatric equipment - wheelchairs, canes, etc. A lot of the elderly are in need.

His list of contractors who will provide discounts for seniors is a good thing, too. I'm just not sure he'd offer that information to a senior he doesn't like.

Or put a contractor on there that he didn't like!

Doesn't Acciard own a cleaning company? I'll bet a month's pay his company isnt on that list!

More spin and marketing. You can't do a good job when you are breaking the law. We all know Phil is illegally using police dept funds from taxpayers to pay for all the cost overruns from Elderly Affairs.

If he isn't then an audit would prove otherwise. Show us how you can pay for 1,644 senior transports in 2007 on a budget of $19,000. You can't. You know it and I know it. So along with his illegal slush funds, as determined by the Attorney Generals office, you have more law breaking by misuse of the PD budget.

I don't see the fire dept or highway dept giving seniors rides in their vehicles using their budgets to pay for it. They don't because they don't break the law like Phil does.

The newest memo is out, talking about the Elderly Affairs Division of the Atkinson Police Department.
How to split it up.

Where's the memo?

The real question is "Do Children do enough for their elderly parents?"
When the government started doing things for the elderly that their children should be doing, many adult children got lazy. And neighbors stopped helping neighbors because they were told "the government will do it for them."
If you have an elderly neighbor who is still able to get around but needs a bit of help now and then, don't wait for some government entity to "help." Don't wait for Super Phil to come to rescue with giant ropes attached to his "efforts." Be a good neighbor.
And Phil, stop tooting your own horn. (AKA Anon 10-20 @ 11:34P)

Yes I have seen the cruiser too but could not tell who was driving it.

As for the dumping, I have not driven by there so I cannot tell.

I also saw the dumping out back. I'll notify DES .
